Trinidad and Tobago Carnival

Trinidad Carnival
Two revelers dance in the streets. The form of dancing is called "wining" (winding) pronounced wine-ing

The Trinidad and Tobago Carnival is held on the Monday and Tuesday before Ash Wednesday annually. Trinidad and Tobago's Carnival, known for its colorful costumes and exuberant celebrations, is the inspiration for most of the carnivals in the Caribbean Diaspora including Toronto's Caribana, Miami's Miami Carnival, Houston Carifest, London's Notting Hill Carnival as well as New York City's Labor Day Carnival. In terms of size and importance the Trinidad and Tobago Carnival is surpassed only by the Brazilian Carnival. Celebratory events start in December and continue beyond the main carnival days listed below. Long associated with calypso music, Trinidad's Carnival is now primarily associated with Soca music.
