Panama has celebrated Carnival annually on the four days leading up to Ash Wednesday since the early 1900s.
The town of Las Tablas is the best place to experience Carnival. Festivities in the town include an exhibition of floats and costumes, fireworks, live concerts, games, and large trucks that spray clean water on participants to keep them cool.
Via Espana in Panama City is another great location to experience the Carnival since the Carnival queen is selected there and she is featured in a parade. The events involve a lot of food and dancing, with the streets filled with joyous people.
