According to a report by OXFAM, the richest 1% of people in the world will own more than 50% of the world's wealth in 2016, according to current trends.
The report highlights the scale of global inequality and its staggering increase.
The average income for each person in the 1% elite is $2.7 million USD compared to global wealth of $3,851 USD for each person in the world.
The study is being released a day before US President Barack Obama's makes his State of the Union address, in which he is expected to call for increased taxes on wealthy Americans to help the middle class, and ahead of the annual World Economic Forum in Davos.
