No. 9: Kimmy (Antigua and Barbuda)

Model, aspiring accountant, and soca artiste. Whew! Some would think the 22 year old Antiguan would have too much on her plate but she doesn’t. Born into a family of musicians, Kimmy has the dream of taking the family’s talent out of the 440km2 twin island.

In 2013, she begged her audience to take a ride with her as she released her most popular song to date. Take a ride was the vehicle that helped kick start her journey as she went on her first tour of the U.S.  In 2014, she left mas players and carnival lovers in awe with the release of another successful local hit Gimme Room. Kimmy was not always known for her up-tempo soca music, however. Following her father Calypsonian, King Zacari,’s footsteps,

Kimmy started singing Calypso at the age of five. In 2002, she was crowned the Junior Calypso Monarch of Antigua where she remained a permanent figure in the top three spots for most of her years in the competition. Kimmy acknowledges her father is the driving force behind her interest in music.
