Cuba and Haiti eye continued cooperation

According to official statistics, since Cuba started medical cooperation with Haiti in 1998 and up to late July 2012, nearly 19.2 million patients were assisted, including six million persons who were treated in their own homes.
Cuban doctors performed 331,724 surgeries, assisted 140,598 births, while 312,584 lives were saved. Cuba’s support in fighting extreme poverty and for human rights in Haiti has been crucial, according to minister Marie Carmele Roseanne.

The most recent high-level meeting between the two countries took place on Thursday, when Haitian Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe received Cuban ambassador Ricardo Garcia, diplomatic sources reported.
