All diets have essentially the same effect if you stick to them. That is the message of a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association that analyzed data from 48 separate trials.
It did not matter if it was the Atkins diet or South Beach, Zone, Biggest Loser, Jenny Craig, Nutrisystem, Volumetrics, Weight Watchers, or Ornish and Rosemary Conley.
They have similar results Canadian researchers say, if you stick to them, and people should simply pick the one that they find easiest to stick to.
The study showed that sticking to a diet was more important than the diet itself because all diets cut about the same amount of calories.
The study showed that after 12 months, people on low carbohydrate and low fat diets both lost an average of 7.3kg (16lb).
However, the study did not look at how the different diets impacted other health issues such as diabetes and hypertension which may be impacted differently by the diets.
