12 Years a Slave by Grenadian-British director wins Golden Globes

Grenadian-British film director, screenwriter, and video artist Steve McQueen's film,12 Years a Slave, has won the 2014 Golden Globes awards for best motion picture drama. He was recently crowned best director for the film by the New York Film Critics Circle.

"12 Years A Slave" is based on the memoir by Solomon Northup, a free man who was kidnapped into slavery, was the most-nominated drama of the night.

The awards, which were held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, was hosted by comedians Tina Fey and Amy Poehlers.

Winning the Golden Globes positions 12 Years a Slave to win  the Academy Awards' best picture of the year  honor.
