Couples Resorts is finalizing a deal to buy the all-inclusive Almond Casuarina Beach hotel in Barbados and is expected to acquire it by January 31. The 280-room Almond Casuarina Beach hotel is the second largest hotel in Barbados and its acquisition would mark the first venture of Couples outside it home market and the first Jamaican resort group to venture into Barbados.
The Almond Casuarina Beach is located on the white sands of Dover Beach, close to St. Lawrence gap, an area known for its nightlife and entertainment, on the south coast of Barbados. It is four miles from the capital city, Bridgetown, and five miles from the Grantley Adams International Airport.
The announcement comes months after after Couples deal to purchase SuperClubs Breezes Grand in Negril fell through. The Almond Casuarina hotel is held by Casuarina Beach Club Limited, which in turn is owned by Barbados Shipping & Trading Company and Almond Resorts Inc., both subsidiaries of the Trinidad conglomerate Neal & Massy Holdings Limited, in partnership with Goddard Enterprises Limited.
Normal operations at Almond Casuarina will continue until May 31, 2013, after that, the hotel will be re-branded as a Couples resort.
